Climate Action in Language Education

Background

This project ties in with the COP 26 meeting in the UK 2021.  It was designed to help language teachers of all levels of experience with an interest in bringing environmental issues and sustainability into their classes

Communication

For this project I was working with a storyboard in Google docs and mainly communicated with colleagues using tags.  For more detailed communication we used Microsoft Teams.

Authoring

To actually build the course I used the eXact Authoring Tool to design matching, ordering, multiple choice and multiple selection activities amongst others.

Captions

As part of the project I made captions for the videos on the course by:

  • uploading the videos to Youtube
  • editing the automatically-generated captions for spelling and punctuation
  • moving them to ensure the positioning in the video was right
  • downloading the captions and editing the code so that they worked with eXact

Proofreading

While building I also helped with proofreading.  I checked for typos, things which were not clear and activities that did not work very well, pedagogically or for accessibility reasons.  I helped to rewrite text that was still confusing after undergoing a few rewrites.
